solar eclipse

i  would like to tell you the story
of how i met the my love in the sky
i knew not how he shined or how he glowed
for all i glimpsed was him running before nigh'

i would chase after the sun for days on end
days that turned to months alone
from east to west i would trace my lover's path
always to hide behind the clouds unknown

for one day i grew tired of chasing
the moonlight dimmed a little that night
the humans cried in fear of the darkness
as the moon grew tired of her light

the sun finally noticed his lover
as i started hiding away my beauty
so chase he did through the wind and clouds
to bring me from within

they say the moon tried to run from the sun
just as the sun once did to the moon
but the sun was fierce, strong and brave
the chase was over all too soon

for the moment the 2 lovers met in the sky
the clouds turned red from their love
the sun gently kissed the moon
and hid her from prying eyes above

in turn the moon glowed a little brighter
and begged the gods to give them this moment
she waxed and waned and melted in her lover's embrace
as the skies fought to cover the moment

but their reunion was just so strong
that the beings from below fell on their knees to worship
for a love so strong and so true
could never exist within their realms

but soon the moon cried out in agony
as the gods tore the lovers apart
the crops were dying without the suns heat
and in turn so was her heart

the sun swore to meet her again
at the same spot next year
and so began their chase again
the only time they could cherish dear

the humans called it the solar eclipse
for the passion of the moon and the heat of the sun
burnt through eyes that were not meant to see
love that strong and pure as our one

and pure and strong our love is
for my soul longs for the sun only
and his tendrils in touch seem to gently caresss my face
when twilight arriveth for us to meet briefly

so all i can hope is that one day
you will experience the love i have  with mine
for though the sun may not know just how much
the moon loves him more than he could shine

to my sun

i love you
